On the evening of Thursday, June 25, 2026, 50-year-old Cornelius Smith of Camden, New Jersey, was shot in the 300 block of Morse Street. Camden City police arrived around 10:20 p.m. and found Smith lying in the street with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital and pronounced dead at about 10:46 p.m.

Smith’s death was the third fatal shooting in Camden during June 2026. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Camden County Police Department opened a joint homicide investigation. Authorities have not released a motive or identified any suspects, and no arrests had been announced as of late June 2026.
