A burst of gunfire on the evening of June 24, 2026, killed 23-year-old Willie Key on Detroit’s west side in the Burgess Street area between I-96 and Fenkell. The same shooting left his seven-year-old nephew, Jacquees Moore, with multiple gunshot wounds; the boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators have tied the shooting to a dispute over a stolen piece of jewelry, possibly a chain. In the days after the attack, two men with prior felony convictions were arrested and charged on federal firearms counts: 32-year-old Lonnie Moore was charged as a felon in possession of a firearm after allegedly making threats to the victims via a FaceTime call, and Robert Irvin faced the same federal charge after images of an AR-style rifle on his phone were linked by caliber to shell casings from the scene. Initial reports did not announce murder charges, and who directly caused Key’s death remains an open question.
If anyone knew Willie, Jacquees, or saw activity around Burgess Street that night, please share information with investigators.
