A planned meeting to buy THC vape pens in a Southwest Side apartment lot ended in gunfire and the death of 14-year-old Michael Alvarez Jr. On June 23, 2026, at The Scott at Medio Creek on Excellence Drive in San Antonio, surveillance video shows 19-year-old Christian Nathaniel Lopez approach Alvarez, followed by 16-year-old Jeremiah Gavino Delgado, who was masked, gloved and armed. Delgado allegedly pointed the gun at Alvarez’s back; Alvarez reportedly drew a handgun and shots were exchanged.

Delgado was shot and died at the scene from a chest wound after firing additional rounds that fatally struck Alvarez in the head and neck; the Bexar County Medical Examiner ruled Alvarez’s death a homicide. Lopez was also shot, and surveillance footage later showed him picking up Delgado’s handgun before fleeing in a waiting vehicle. Authorities detained two men for questioning and charged Lopez with capital murder and tampering with physical evidence.
