A June 23, 2026 family gathering in Royal Palm Beach turned deadly when gunfire erupted shortly before 5 p.m. at a Coconut Boulevard residence. Deputies found 66-year-old Thomas Faferko unresponsive with at least one gunshot wound to the head; three other people in the home were also struck and taken to local hospitals, two initially listed in serious condition.
Palm Beach County deputies arrested 29-year-old Thomas Faferko-Schmedes at the scene after he surrendered while armed with a shotgun. He reportedly made rambling statements claiming to be a victim and alleging others were being harmed. Family members told officers he had threatened the family after a verbal dispute and that he has a history of schizophrenia.
Faferko-Schmedes was booked into the county jail without bond and charged with one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. The case is an active investigation by the Violent Crimes Division.
If anyone witnessed the shooting or the moments leading up to it, or has information about the family dynamics that night, please share what is known.
