Joshua Ashford, 38, was killed in a daylight shooting inside an auto shop in Chicago’s South Lawndale neighborhood. The confrontation occurred about noon on June 22, 2026, in the 2100 block of South Washtenaw Avenue after a dispute between Ashford and a 49-year-old man turned physical and a firearm was produced. Ashford was shot in the chest, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and was pronounced dead on arrival.

The other man suffered facial injuries and was treated at Saint Anthony Hospital. Chicago police opened an on-scene investigation and initially reported no one was in custody. A Spanish-language news outlet said self-defense was being considered, a point not confirmed by police. No public updates about arrests, charges, or court action have been reported.

If anyone witnessed the fight or was in that area around noon on June 22, 2026, please share what was seen or contact investigators with any information.
