A Father’s Day gathering in Virginia Beach on the evening of June 21, 2026, ended with 55-year-old Daryl Sherwood dead of multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency services were called about a shooting at about 8:13 p.m. in the 2100 block of West Kendall Circle; Sherwood was found at the scene and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Investigators arrested Sherwood’s 25-year-old son, Dylan Sherwood, who was charged with voluntary manslaughter and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Court filings say Dylan admitted to shooting his father after a physical altercation that began when Daryl was reportedly heavily intoxicated and aggressive. Witnesses, including Dylan’s brother Ryan Leopold and Paula Sherwood’s former husband Ricky Leopold, described Daryl assaulting family members and making threats. A bond hearing featured video showing Paula Sherwood attempting to de-escalate, then Daryl charging toward Dylan followed by several gunshots; Dylan’s attorney contended he acted in self-defense. Dylan, who has no prior criminal record, was granted a $10,000 bond with pretrial monitoring and ordered to live with his brother while awaiting trial in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Does anyone have additional information about the household dynamics or what led to the confrontation that night?
