Isaiah Chavez, 23, was killed in a burst of gunfire in the early morning of June 20, 2026, in the parking lot of a Speedway at 4700 South and 3600 West in Taylorsville, Utah. Surveillance video shows two vehicles with about nine people stopped there around 3:15 a.m. while waiting for information about a house party. Footage reportedly captures a vehicle occupied by Alejandro Julian Bia, 23, Daniel Vargas Rodriguez, 19, and a 17-year-old firing toward Chavez; Chavez is seen returning fire before running toward his own vehicle. After the suspects’ vehicle sped away and then turned back, another volley of shots struck Chavez, who sustained a single fatal gunshot wound to his right side.
Investigators used surveillance footage, license plate readers, and cellphone data to track and arrest Bia, Rodriguez, and the 17-year-old, identified as Christopher Lopez. Bia and Rodriguez were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail and charged with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and felony discharge of a firearm; the 17-year-old also faces a murder charge.
Isaiah’s family remembers him as a caring son, brother, and uncle who loved spending time with his nieces and brought laughter to those around him. Does anyone have information about the events at the Speedway that morning or knew Isaiah and can help investigators?
