On the evening of June 19, 2026, 44-year-old LaDana Murrell was shot and killed in the doorway of an apartment at 6015 Dale Carnegie Lane in southwest Houston. Houston Police arrived after a shooting call around 7:50 p.m.; paramedics pronounced Murrell dead at the scene. Investigators say the killing followed a domestic dispute and that witnesses saw Murrell in a physical altercation with a man just before the shooting.

Homicide detectives identified 46-year-old Michael D. Franklin as the suspect. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office filed a murder charge in the 179th State District Court, and a warrant has been issued for Franklin’s arrest. He remained at large as of late June 2026 and HPD released a prior booking photo while urging anyone with information to contact the Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers.
