On the evening of June 18, 2026, a confrontation in the front yard of a Chelsea Circle home in Coolbaugh Township, Tobyhanna, escalated into deadly violence. Twenty-six-year-old Layzon Breland retreated to his upstairs bedroom after the other man forced entry armed with a handgun. A gunfight followed; both men were struck, but Breland suffered multiple gunshot wounds including a fatal shot to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 8 p.m.

Witnesses saw a man flee in a white vehicle, and a blood trail led from the residence to the street. About 27 minutes after the 911 call, a gunshot-wounded man was dropped off at a Scranton hospital; surveillance and license plate readers linked the vehicle to the girlfriend of 27-year-old Yasim McDonald of Scranton. Blood and cleaning supplies were found in the car, and rapid DNA testing matched McDonald to blood at the crime scene. McDonald was arrested and charged with criminal homicide and tampering with physical evidence; he was arraigned and denied bail, with a preliminary hearing set for the end of June 2026. The charges are allegations and no conviction is reported.

Did anyone in the area see the white vehicle or the man fleeing that evening?
