On June 17, 2026, 17-year-old Aung Htoo was fatally shot in Omaha, Nebraska. Officers responding to a reported shooting at about 1:10 a.m. found Htoo and 18-year-old Manish Gurung near an apartment complex at 48th and Nicholas Streets; Htoo was pronounced dead at the scene and Gurung was taken to Nebraska Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and expected to survive. The Omaha Police Department opened a homicide investigation, describing the incident as gang-related and part of a day that included multiple killings across the city.
Investigators arrested two teenage suspects: 18-year-old Gaydohnay De and 17-year-old Peaceful Say. Prosecutors say De and Say provided firearms used in an ambush-style attack on the car occupied by Htoo and Gurung. Charges were amended for De to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and conspiracy to discharge a firearm at an occupied vehicle; a judge denied bail for De. It was noted that juveniles who allegedly received the guns had been prohibited from possessing firearms.
Would anyone with information about the shooting near North Saddle Creek Road and Hamilton Street or about the events leading up to that early morning be willing to share what they know?
