On the afternoon of June 17, 2026, residents near 21st Avenue East and Carter Street in Springfield, Tennessee, heard gunfire and called police. Responding officers arrived about 12:37 p.m. and found 37-year-old Devin D. Dowlen lying in the roadway; emergency medical personnel confirmed he was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
The Springfield Police Department opened a homicide investigation and later that same day announced an arrest. Twenty-two-year-old D'Angelo Qualon Petties Jr. was taken to the Robertson County Detention Facility and charged with one count of criminal homicide; he is also charged with a separate community corrections violation that occurred days after the shooting. Petties Jr. was held without bond pending a June 30, 2026, initial court appearance in Robertson County General Sessions Court.
Authorities have not released a motive or described any relationship between Dowlen and the accused. The investigation remains active. Does anyone have information about Dowlen, the location, or events that afternoon?
