Vetta Turner, 34, was found dead in Broward County, Florida, on July 9, 1973, having been asphyxiated or strangled. Few records describe her life, last movements, or the exact place she was discovered, but preserved biological evidence from the scene later proved crucial.

Turner’s killing occurred amid a string of assaults and murders in northwest Fort Lauderdale in which victims were attacked in isolated fields, vacant properties, and other secluded spots, often involving choking or strangulation. Eddie Lee Mosley, known to police by July 1973 and suspected in multiple sexual assaults, was linked to Turner years later when DNA from the preserved evidence matched his profile in 2001.

That DNA connection identified Mosley as Turner's killer in an investigative sense, but he was not tried for her murder because psychiatric evaluations found him incompetent to stand trial; he remained in involuntary confinement until his death in 2020. If anyone knew Vetta Turner or has information about her final movements, please come forward.
