Eula Joiner, 34, was found partially clothed and dead in a vacant lot near her Fort Lauderdale home on September 8, 1973, after being sexually assaulted and strangled. Evidence at the scene reportedly showed she had struggled with her attacker. Her killing occurred amid a wave of assaults in northwest Fort Lauderdale that targeted women in isolated lots, abandoned properties and other secluded spots.

Investigators later associated Joiner’s death with Eddie Lee Mosley, a Fort Lauderdale resident long linked to numerous sexual assaults and several murders. Mosley was described as the principal suspect to whom her death was attributed; documentation is clearer about DNA links tying him to other Broward County victims than it is about preserved forensic evidence from Joiner’s scene. Mosley was never convicted of Joiner’s murder and was found incompetent to stand trial; he died in 2020 without a jury determining responsibility for her killing.

Did anyone in the Fort Lauderdale area know Joiner or have information about that neighborhood in 1973? Please share tips or memories that might help fill gaps in the timeline.
