Carswell Hall Carr Sr., 45, and his 15-year-old daughter Amanda Beth Carr were murdered inside their Pine Valley Road home in Milledgeville, Georgia, on November 6, 1974. A man identified as escaped Florida prisoner Paul John Knowles had presented himself as friendly and was invited to spend the night. Once inside, Knowles stabbed Carswell Carr repeatedly; a retired Milledgeville officer later estimated about 25 stab wounds. Amanda Beth Carr was strangled, and reports say a sexual act was performed or attempted involving her body after the killing.
Knowles ransacked the house and stole cash, clothing, credit cards and other items, including Amanda’s Mickey Mouse watch. Investigators linked him to the Milledgeville slayings through the stolen property and use of Carr’s credit cards. Knowles went on to commit other killings and was killed by law enforcement on December 18, 1974, while being transported; he never stood trial for the Carr murders. Did anyone in Milledgeville know the Carr family well enough to help fill gaps about that night or the visitor who was invited in?
