On July 12, 2026, five members of one East St. Louis family were killed in a targeted mass shooting that unfolded across three locations: Jones Park, a Summit Avenue residence, and the Samuel Gompers Homes. Victims included 21-year-old Quentin L. Thompson, his sister Shania W. Thompson, 25, Cherie L. May, 49, Devin D. May, 24, and family matriarch Patricia A. May, 74. Two other relatives were shot and survived.
Authorities say the attack was driven by a family dispute over a teenage relationship. Illinois State Police arrested a 15-year-old relative and her 16-year-old boyfriend, Ja'ymier Davis, after a pursuit; Davis was charged as an adult with multiple felonies including five counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder, and prosecutors filed to try the 15-year-old as an adult. Quentin was remembered as someone who loved drawing and anime.
Does anyone have information about Quentin’s last movements or was at the scenes that day?
