Shania W. Thompson, 25, of East St. Louis, Illinois, was found dead in the back of a vehicle in an alley near North 39th Street and Summit Avenue and pronounced dead on July 12, 2026. Her death was one of five killings that investigators treated as a targeted attack on members of the same family, with others killed at or linked to the Samuel Gompers Homes area and Jones Park. Two additional relatives, Tiffany Thompson and Santosha Scott, survived serious gunshot wounds.
Authorities said the shootings unfolded across multiple locations and were carried out with a stolen 9mm handgun. Two teenagers were arrested the same day the victims were located after state police found them in a vehicle at Frank Holten State Park and stopped it using a PIT maneuver. One suspect is Ja’ymier Davis, charged in adult court; the other is a juvenile girl whose identity has been withheld and whose case began in juvenile court. Prosecutors alleged planning in social-media messages and have filed multiple charges, including first-degree murder counts linked to Shania’s death.
Relatives described ongoing conflict over the teen relationship at the center of the investigation and said Shania had hoped to open her own restaurant. The family was left to plan multiple funerals while two relatives recovered from their injuries. Did anyone in East St. Louis know Shania or have information about the days leading up to July 11–12?
