Teodoro Garcia-Herrera, a 53-year-old Hispanic man from Matehuala, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, was killed on the morning of Sunday, March 22, 2026, during a multi-location rampage in Amarillo, Texas. A skilled stucco and plaster worker, Garcia-Herrera was remembered by colleagues as a patient, steady presence and a father figure who built close relationships as well as structures.
The violence began around 7:36 a.m. when 41-year-old Dustin Johnson murdered two people at a storage facility off Loop 335. After briefly eluding law enforcement, Johnson drove to a residence in the 1900 block of Northwest 14th Avenue. At about 8:15 a.m. he crashed into the house and opened fire; Garcia-Herrera was killed and five others were wounded at that location. Officers encountered Johnson outside, gave verbal commands that he refused, and then shot him multiple times; Johnson died at the scene. No arrests followed because the sole suspect was killed by police.
If anyone knew Teodoro Garcia-Herrera or was in that neighborhood that morning and has information about what happened, please come forward.
