On November 5, 1990, the partially nude body of 26-year-old Kathryn Jo Hill was found in the rear parking lot of a truck stop near the Ohio Turnpike in Lake Township, Ohio. Also known by the aliases Chantilly, Scooter, and Wendy Turner, Hill was believed to have been working as a prostitute in the area. The initial autopsy could not determine a definitive cause of death, but investigators reported a scalp laceration, a contusion to her right eye, and abrasions on her nose and chin.
Evidence from the scene included DNA that was preserved and entered into the Combined DNA Index System. Investigators noted similarities between Hill’s death and other women found along highways in Ohio and neighboring states in the 1980s and early 1990s, a series often linked in public discussion to a figure nicknamed Dr. No. Samuel W. Legg has been linked by DNA to other murders and has been discussed in relation to the wider pattern, but he has not been charged in Hill’s case; no arrests have been made in her murder.
The Wood County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lake Township Police Department list the case as an active cold case. If anyone knew Kathryn or has information about her movements or the truck stop in early November 1990, please come forward.
