I've been thinking a lot about the terrifying experience for the patients and families at Community Hospital of the Valleys during that chaotic time in 1981. Reading about Winnifred Hammond's sudden seizures that same night as Gertrude Bryant's crisis gave me chills. Can you imagine how terrifying it must've been for them in their vulnerable state, thinking they were in a place of safety and healing, only to experience such traumatic events? It's heartbreaking that trust was betrayed in such a horrific manner. My heart really goes out to the families who lost their loved ones, blindsided by these tragedies. Who would have thought that someone in a position to care for the sick could have been the source of such horror? It's a reminder of why the work of investigators and medical professionals is so crucial in cases like this. We owe it to these victims to remember their stories and advocate for the highest standards in patient safety and accountability.
