Valinda Brown was found dead in Detroit’s Cass Corridor on February 16, 1975. Her killing was the first in a series that continued for about eight months and ultimately involved seven women and girls who lived in poverty and were involved in prostitution. Victims in the series were raped and murdered, and witnesses described a tall, muscular African-American man with an afro and unusually large hands and feet, which led to the suspect being nicknamed the Bigfoot Killer.

Investigators arrested 29-year-old Carl Mayweather Jr. in early 1976 after an attempted rape; he fit aspects of the eyewitness descriptions, including height and a large shoe size. Mayweather later provided alibis that covered at least four of the seven murders and was cleared as a suspect in the Bigfoot killings. No one has been charged or convicted in the deaths of Valinda Brown or the other victims.

Did anyone who knew Valinda or who worked in the Cass Corridor at that time see anything that could still help identify the killer?
