On the evening of August 23, 2026, 57-year-old Cheryl Gravitt was found with a fatal gunshot wound in the 500 block of Morehead Street in Moberly, Missouri. Officers located Gravitt lying on the ground with trauma to her head; she was taken to a local hospital and later died. The Randolph County Coroner ruled the death a homicide.

Family members say Gravitt had been taking out her trash when she was shot in the back of the head, a detail not yet confirmed by the Moberly Police Department. A neighbor reported hearing a disturbance between two women before the shooting. A joint investigation involving the Moberly Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, and the Randolph County Coroner is ongoing, and no suspects or arrests have been publicly identified. The police have described the shooting as isolated.

Does anyone have information about activity on Morehead Street that evening or knew Cheryl Gravitt and can help investigators?
