A Sunday afternoon in a Kansas City apartment complex turned deadly on August 23, 2026, when gunfire in the parking lot of the 2000 block of Wheeling Avenue left 19-year-old Raul Lara-Delgado and 21-year-old Sabrae E. Morris dead. The shooting happened about 12:45 p.m.; officers arriving found three men shot in and around a vehicle. Lara-Delgado and Morris were pronounced dead at the scene. A third man, found in the driver’s seat, was conscious and taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Homicide detectives and crime-scene teams began an investigation that, in its early stages, indicated the victims were in or near the vehicle when an interaction with one or more suspects escalated to gunfire. As of the days following the incident, police had not released suspect information and no arrests had been announced. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information is asked to contact Kansas City homicide detectives or the TIPS Hotline.
