A late‑afternoon shooting on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, left 26‑year‑old Moses Hendren dead at the intersection of North Main Street and College Street in South Boston, Virginia. Police say the South Boston Police Department received a call about a gunshot victim at approximately 4:39 p.m.; officers found Hendren with apparent gunshot wounds and he was later pronounced dead.

The death has been classified as a homicide and detectives immediately processed the scene and opened an investigation. Authorities asked anyone who was in the area around that time to come forward and requested that residents and businesses check doorbell, dashboard and other security camera footage for relevant images.

The South Boston Police Department is being assisted by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Halifax County Rescue Squad, South Boston Fire Department and South Boston Public Works. No arrests have been announced and no motive has been released; the investigation remains active.
