In the pre-dawn hours of August 19, 2026, a home on South Enchanted Spring Drive in Tucson was the scene of a violent invasion that ended with 23-year-old Tucson Police Department recruit Carlos Ramirez fatally shot. Ramirez, a former Pima County corrections officer, was eight days from graduating the police academy. His 23-year-old fiancée, also a corrections officer, was wounded and survived; their young child was in the home during the attack.

Initial descriptions named two Hispanic males in black clothing and ski masks and a gray Acura MDX believed to be the getaway vehicle, possibly missing a fuel door. That SUV was recovered in a parking lot and helped lead investigators to three men of interest. Authorities identified 33-year-old Alex James Barnett and 39-year-old Santiago Jorge Rogers plus a third individual seen on surveillance. A Blue Alert was issued for Barnett; Rogers was arrested by a SWAT team on August 22 and booked on charges including first-degree murder. By August 25, Barnett had been taken into custody and the third man had been located as investigators worked to determine his involvement.

What information might help clarify who planned the invasion and the third man’s role?
