Mark Anthony Morgan, 34, of Enfield, Connecticut, was fatally shot inside a South Road home in Somers during the early morning of August 18, 2026. Morgan was staying overnight at the residence where the estranged wife of Joshua Freitag lived with the couple’s two children; authorities described Morgan as being in a relationship with her. Relatives said Morgan was a hardworking, kindhearted father of two young children.

Police say tension between Morgan and Freitag had existed before the shooting and the men had fought in the past. Prosecutors allege that shortly after 4 a.m. Freitag parked about an eighth of a mile away, approached the house with a sledgehammer, smashed a rear sliding door, and went upstairs armed with a handgun. Investigators reported Morgan suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and one to the back of his head; the woman and the two children inside were not physically injured. Troopers found Freitag outside and took him into custody; police recovered a handgun, an empty magazine and a holster near the front entrance.

Freitag was arrested on a warrant and charged with murder, home invasion and two counts of risk of injury to a child.

If anyone knew Morgan, his movements that night, or has information about the events on South Road, please come forward.
