Shortly after 5:00 a.m. on August 17, 2026, Juan Lopez, 33, was shot in the chest and later died at a hospital after a confrontation on the 100 block of San Pablo Street SE in Albuquerque. Lopez had been with a female friend when a red Tesla deliberately crossed their path. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Kwamie L’Shuan Williamson, stepped out armed with a rifle-style firearm, confronted Lopez and fired one shot. The woman had been the target of repeated stalking and harassment by Williamson and had moved three times to try to escape his attention.

Police response was prompted by the city’s ShotSpotter system. The red Tesla was tracked with automated license plate readers and found abandoned in southeast Albuquerque. Surveillance footage and cellphone data, along with witness accounts, led investigators to Williamson. A SWAT team arrested him at a southeast Albuquerque residence; he was booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center without bond and charged with an open count of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of aggravated stalking, tampering with evidence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Authorities say they are also seeking a second person who was reportedly in the Tesla.

What information might help identify the second occupant or provide additional witnesses to the shooting?
