Dawn Kriskewic, 52, was found lying in the roadway in front of her Vero Beach home on August 16, 2026, with a gunshot wound. First responders transported her to a nearby trauma center, but she died of her injuries. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation and classified the case as domestic violence.
Investigators identified 33-year-old Matthew Allen Waggle, Kriskewic’s ex-boyfriend, as a person of interest. Friends and colleagues said Kriskewic had recently ended the on-again, off-again relationship and had expressed fear of Waggle, asking others to turn him away if he tried to contact her. Surveillance footage shows a man arriving in her neighborhood, present only briefly before leaving.
Law enforcement tracked Waggle’s movements across multiple states; he traveled by Greyhound and Uber and was located in a West Virginia motel. The gun used in the shooting was registered to his ex-wife, who was taken into custody for questioning. On August 20, 2026, U.S. Marshals arrested Waggle in Dunbar, West Virginia; he was charged with first-degree murder and is awaiting extradition to Florida.
Did anyone in Vero Beach know Dawn or have information about her movements or contacts on August 16?
