A late-summer night in Brunswick, Georgia, ended in fatal violence when 43-year-old James Randall Myers of Richmond Hill was shot and killed. Officers patrolling downtown just after midnight on Sunday, August 16, 2026, heard a gunshot and found Myers suffering from a fatal wound on Grant Street between F Street and Gloucester Street; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnessing a man flee, officers ran a short foot chase and detained 20-year-old Jason Middlebrooks of Brunswick, who was later identified as the primary suspect. The motive has not been released, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist the Brunswick Police Department with the ongoing inquiry.

Myers, known to family as JJ, is survived by his wife, Lyndsey Alford Myers, and two sons, Jace Cauley and Davin Alford. A celebration of his life was scheduled for August 27, 2026, at Garden City United Methodist Church in Savannah. Does anyone in Brunswick have information about what happened that night or knew James Myers?
