In the predawn hours of Sunday, August 16, 2026, 21-year-old Jesus Ugalde was found dead in the parking lot of the Hunters Ridge Apartments on Craighill Road in Henrico, Virginia. The initial call reporting a shooting came in at about 3 a.m.; officers who arrived discovered Ugalde with evident signs of trauma and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The death has been ruled a homicide.

Henrico Police developed information early about a possible suspect and a vehicle used to leave the area. Officers located the vehicle and its driver, 22-year-old David Chavez Penaloza, who was known to Ugalde. Penaloza was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony; the investigation is ongoing and the matter has moved into the judicial process.
