A community celebration at Charles Young Park in Lexington, Kentucky, ended in tragedy on August 15, 2026, when gunfire at the East End Day event killed 16-year-old DiZhon Robertson. Four other people were wounded in the shooting, including a 4-year-old and a 14-year-old. Robertson was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital and died of a gunshot wound; the Fayette County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.
Lexington Police arrested 18-year-old Jametrius Griffin less than 24 hours after the shooting and charged him with murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and tampering with physical evidence. Griffin was arraigned, entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, was held on $1 million bond and remanded to the Fayette County Detention Center. The next court date is scheduled for early September 2026.
Was anyone at Charles Young Park that evening willing to share what they saw or heard?
