Anireeyah Brue, an 18-year-old recent high school graduate, was fatally shot late Friday night, August 14, 2026, in the 6300 block of East Myrtle Street in Baker, Louisiana. Officers responded to a 911 call at about 11:45 p.m.; she was found with a gunshot wound, taken to a local hospital and later died. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office recorded coroner personnel at the scene around 1 a.m. on August 15.

Police released few details about the circumstances of the shooting. Officials did not say whether Brue was inside a residence, outside, in a vehicle, or whether anyone else was present; they did not disclose the number of shots fired, the weapon type, or whether a firearm or other physical evidence was recovered. Authorities had not announced a suspect, motive, description of a shooter, person of interest, arrest, charge, or warrant.

Family described Brue as outgoing and a leader in the family who hoped to open her own hair salon. Her death was cited as the most recent fatal incident as local leaders and organizations prepared community meetings focused on rising violence in Baker. The case remains an active investigation; who fired the fatal shot and why are still unknown.
