Tiffany Thompson, 37, was killed on the evening of Thursday, August 13, 2026, on Detroit’s west side during what family members described as a rare outing to her brother’s house for a birthday drink. The gathering in the 9400 block of Whitcomb erupted in an argument just before 9:30 p.m., and witnesses say 55-year-old Katrena McCree pulled a handgun and opened fire. Two women were struck; Tiffany was critically wounded, taken to a local hospital, and later died. The other woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
McCree was reported injured during the incident, treated at a hospital, and then taken into custody. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged McCree with second-degree murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and two counts of felony firearm. She was arraigned on August 16, 2026, with bond set at $200,000 cash/surety. Family and friends held a vigil three days after the shooting to mourn Tiffany, a mother of four described as determined and energetic.
Are there readers who knew Tiffany or were at the gathering and can share information that might help the ongoing case?
