Brenda Joyce Fletcher, 50, was found dead in a water-filled drainage ditch along the northbound on-ramp from State Road 520 to Interstate 95 in Cocoa, Florida. Her body was discovered on Tuesday, April 2, 1991, and had lain in the ditch for several weeks to months. She had been reported missing after last being heard from on October 22, 1990, when she called Missouri from the Washington D.C. area.
Born October 25, 1940, Brenda was described as 5 feet 7 inches and 165 pounds and used the aliases Carol Brenda Hampton and Brenda Carol Henderson. Investigators noted she traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, often accompanied by truck drivers. No suspects or arrests were publicly identified in the immediate aftermath, and a reward of up to $5,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest.
Years later a death row inmate already condemned for another murder confessed to killing Brenda, saying her theft of his wallet and refusal to return his license was his motive. No charges appear to have been filed in connection with her death and the case remains unsolved and open.
Did anyone who knew Brenda or who traveled the interstate routes she used ever hear from her after October 22, 1990?
