Dora Ferguson, 22, was last seen walking along the Trans-Canada Highway in Island View, New Brunswick, in the Fredericton area on August 22, 1979. After that sighting she disappeared without explanation and her whereabouts remained unknown for nearly seventeen years.
On April 21, 1996, skeletal remains found in a garbage bag along the Valley Trail just outside Fredericton were identified as Ferguson’s. Investigators concluded she had been murdered; the condition and location of the remains indicate this was a homicide rather than a voluntary departure.
No named suspect has been publicly identified and there has been no arrest, charge, trial, or conviction reported. The New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit continues to seek information that could identify who killed Dora Ferguson. Does anyone have information about her movements on or after August 22, 1979, or recollections from the Fredericton area that could help investigators?
