Alfred Palmer was 71 and a lifelong dairy farmer west of Medicine Hat, Alberta. He had served as a councillor with the Municipal District of Cypress and was described as community-minded. Dolores Palmer, his daughter-in-law, lived on the farm with her husband in a separate house, helped with the dairy operation and worked part time as an assistant teacher with Seven Persons Early Childhood Services School.
On December 30, 1990, Alfred and Dolores were found together near the rear entrance of the farmhouse, both having been shot with a .410-gauge shotgun. Dolores was pronounced dead at the scene; Alfred was flown to a Calgary hospital and died of his injuries on December 31, 1990. RCMP cold-case files confirm the weapon type but do not publicly identify who fired the shots, a confirmed motive, or a suspect.
The killings remain listed among unsolved homicides, and investigators asked anyone with information to contact the Redcliff RCMP Detachment or Crime Stoppers. Does anyone have information about activity around the farm on or before December 30, 1990?
