Seventeen-year-old Cindy Laura Halliday disappeared after hitchhiking home from Barrie on Easter Monday, April 20, 1992. Witnesses last saw her between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. getting into a light-colored Chrysler LeBaron or a similar vehicle in Midhurst. Her family reported her missing the next day when she did not return.

On May 3 a man found Cindy’s wallet in a wooded area; an OPP search of that site recovered nothing else. Thirteen days later her red, white and blue jacket was located nearby. Skeletal remains discovered by someone walking a dog in a Flos Township reforestation area on June 16 were later identified by dental records as Cindy’s. Forensic analysis completed by October determined she had been stabbed to death, likely in April or May.

Investigators ruled out Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka as suspects and obtained an OPP behavioural profile suggesting a male in his 20s or 30s who may have known Cindy. A $50,000 reward has been offered, but no one has been charged. Does anyone from the Midhurst, Waverley or Barrie area remember Cindy that night or have information that could help the investigation?
