Amber Alyssa Tuccaro was a 20-year-old member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation who disappeared after leaving a motel in Nisku, Alberta, on the evening of August 18, 2010. She had flown to Edmonton from Fort McMurray with her 14-month-old son and a friend; she left the motel without the child and accepted a ride from an unknown man at about 8 p.m. A recorded phone call from inside the vehicle captured Amber becoming alarmed about the route and the driver repeatedly saying they were heading toward Edmonton while mentioning 50th Street.
No confirmed sightings followed the call. Police later located human remains in rural Leduc County on September 1, 2012; dental records identified the remains as Amber’s and authorities treated the case as a murder, though the precise manner of death has not been released.
Early investigative missteps were later found: Amber’s missing-person entry was temporarily removed, belongings left at the motel were not promptly seized or properly preserved, and procedures were not followed. The RCMP has said the homicide investigation remains active.
If anyone knew Amber, recognized the voice on the recording, or has information about her final trip, please come forward.
