Bernice Selby was 27 when she vanished from her home in Everett, Washington. She was last seen on October 12, 1962, and her sister did not report her missing to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office until December 18, 1962. Bernice was a mother with fair skin, brown hair, blue eyes, five feet six inches tall and about 150 pounds at the time she disappeared.
Investigators focused early on Bernice’s personal life; she and her husband, Donald Selby, were reportedly in the midst of a difficult divorce, and he became a person of interest though no charges were ever filed. Law enforcement ultimately treated the case as a presumed homicide after there was no contact or evidence that she was alive.
More than three decades after she disappeared, an informant told police Bernice had been killed by her husband and buried beneath a roadway in Everett, prompting excavation of the 6300 block of 97th Drive Northeast; the dig produced no remains. Donald Selby died in 1980.
Did anyone in the Everett area remember Bernice or have information about her movements in October 1962?
