On the morning of July 10, 2017, 18-year-old Tyler James Mitchell was found dead on the sidewalk in the 2700 block of Burton Street SE in Warren, Ohio. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene; the Trumbull County Coroner later ruled the death a homicide.

Tyler was born June 11, 1999, in Warren to J.W. Mitchell and Amy Dawn Jessie. He attended Howland and Niles schools and loved sports, especially football. At the time of his death he was expecting a son, Tyler James Mitchell Jr., due in September 2017, and family and friends remembered him as loving, outgoing, and kind-hearted.

No arrests have been announced. Investigators report a lack of physical evidence and no eyewitnesses willing to come forward, and the case remains unsolved alongside other 2017 Warren homicides. If anyone has information that could help, contact the Warren Police Department or submit a tip to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
