Marizela Perez, 18, vanished from Seattle on March 5, 2011, after leaving the Rainier Beach home she shared with her aunt and uncle to go to the University of Washington. She was seen boarding a train into the University District around noon and was captured on surveillance between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. at a Safeway on Brooklyn Avenue Northeast. There she bought orange juice, trash bags, Tylenol and over-the-counter sleeping pills, then was seen walking north and disappeared. Her phone last recorded a received text at 2:45 p.m.; it was turned off soon after and never recovered.
At the time she went missing she was described as an Asian female, 5 feet 5 inches, 110 pounds, with an asymmetrical bob, brown and red highlights, short bangs, and possibly green-tinted contacts.
The Seattle Police Department investigated but found few leads; the family has criticized limits on access to her records and noted activity on an instant messenger account two weeks after she vanished. Despite extensive searches by volunteers and the family, no trace of Marizela or her belongings has been found. Did anyone in the Seattle area see Marizela that afternoon or recall the backpack or belongings described?
