Donald Carter, 77, was last seen June 28, 2010, in Santa Monica after dropping his wife at the YMCA. He left a note saying he was going hiking and would return later that day but never came back. His 1979 Honda Civic was found July 2, 2010, parked on a fire road near Lake Hughes Road in Warm Springs, California, but there was no sign of him.

Carter enjoyed hiking and had gone missing once before, becoming lost while hiking in Malibu in 2007. His wife suspected he may have been suffering from dementia or another mental illness; she reported his behavior had changed beforehand, becoming more distant and at times verbally abusive. Extensive searches, including a detailed exploration of the Castaic Lake area, turned up no trace.

Carter was raised in an orphanage after his father died and his mother was institutionalized for mental illness. He worked as a mechanic, machinist, and glassblower and was described as solitary with a passion for hiking. Does anyone who hiked the Castaic Lake or Lake Hughes Road areas around late June 2010 recall seeing him or his car?
