Joel McClean, 51, was found shot to death on June 5, 2014, in an alley on the Near East Side of Columbus, Ohio. Police identified him after responding to reports of a body; he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.

The Columbus Police Department investigated but no arrests have been made and the case remains unsolved. McClean’s death is listed in the Columbus Homicide Cold Case Unit Archive and is one of more than 150 unresolved homicides in the city since 1980. Authorities say the passage of time and a lack of evidence have complicated the investigation, and they continue to appeal for tips that might lead to a resolution.
