Marvin Gates, 25, was shot and killed in broad daylight on May 14, 2012, on St. Ledger Place in the Evanston neighborhood of Cincinnati. Witnesses reported seeing two gunmen wearing red scarves at the scene. Gates had been involved with the Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV) and was trying to leave his past life of crime behind to set a better example for his young daughter, Ma’Riyah.
He had been working with his uncle on community landscaping projects intended to provide young men with lawful work and keep them away from dangerous influences. On the morning he died he spoke with his mother and promised to cook for the family as a late Mother’s Day gesture; hours later he was shot on the street. Despite initial leads and a description of the attackers, the case remains unsolved. His community and family held his funeral on May 22, 2012.
Does anyone have information about the two men seen with red scarves or about Gates’s last day in Evanston?
