Robert Martinez, 52, was found shot to death in East Oakland on July 8, 2009. His killing came during a particularly violent year for the city, which recorded over 100 homicides by the end of 2009 and saw gun violence concentrated in neighborhoods affected by poverty and systemic challenges.

The Oakland Police Department has described being stretched thin by the volume of killings and cited limited resources and a lack of community cooperation as obstacles to solving cases like Martinez’s. The city has pursued measures such as community outreach, appeals for information, and technologies like ShotSpotter, but many homicides from that period remain unsolved, leaving families without closure.

If anyone has information that could help bring justice in Robert Martinez’s case, please share what you know with the Oakland Police Department.
