Octavio Maria Nieves was 41 when he was shot and killed on June 19, 2009, at 1104 Nord Avenue in Chico, California. Police identified gang activity as a possible factor and described his killing as one of several targeted homicides that year during a rise in violent incidents across the city.

Investigators have reported significant difficulty developing leads because witnesses have been reluctant to come forward. The Chico Police Department has also faced limited resources and staffing pressures as the city’s population and emergency call volume grew, complicating efforts to investigate multiple shootings and other serious crimes.

Police continue to urge anyone with information about Nieves or other unsolved murders in Chico to contact them. If anyone knew Octavio Nieves or has details about what happened at 1104 Nord Avenue on June 19, 2009, please share what is known with investigators.
