Robert Richard Remmer was 38 when he and companion Eugeniusz Pastula left Erickson Marina in Tarpon Springs, Florida, on January 1, 1994 aboard the 42-foot fishing vessel Miss Black Diamond for a planned 10- to 12-day trip in the Gulf of Mexico. The boat did not return. On January 7, 1994 the Miss Black Diamond was found adrift about 70 miles west of Clearwater, heavily damaged with its cabin and pilothouse missing, and neither man was on board.

The U.S. Coast Guard searched more than 1,300 square miles by aircraft and helicopters but found no sign of Remmer or Pastula. Authorities believe the vessel may have been struck by a large wave during a storm, and both men have been classified as lost at sea. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office continues to list the case as open with no further evidence reported.

If anyone has information about Remmer, his last days ashore, or the Miss Black Diamond’s voyage, please share what is known.
