Garrett Burton was 16 when he was shot and killed in the early hours of August 30, 2008, along Hilliard-Rome Road in Columbus, Ohio. The shooting occurred about 3 a.m. after Garrett and several other teens were throwing eggs at passing cars. An unidentified male whose vehicle had been struck approached and, after a confrontation in which he threatened Garrett, shot him; Garrett died at the scene and the shooter fled.
Garrett was a student at Westland High School who enjoyed sports—basketball, bowling, swimming, and golf—worked at a local Kroger, and liked music, especially rapping. His father, George Burton, a nearly 30-year veteran police officer, has repeatedly appealed for information. The Columbus Police Department, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and Crime Stoppers continue to investigate and encourage anonymous tips.
Has anyone in the Hilliard-Rome Road area or who knew Garrett seen or heard anything that could help bring the shooter to justice?
