Evelyn Louise Davis, who went by Louise, was 16 and four months pregnant when she vanished from her family’s home in East Liverpool, Ohio. On June 21, 1979, she was sunbathing in the backyard around 2:00 p.m. when 21-year-old Robert L. Wooten arrived and said a friend’s wife had returned and wanted to see her. Louise left with Wooten, telling her mother she would be home by her 10:00 p.m. curfew. She was last seen wearing blue jeans with a red mark on the back and a V-neck T-shirt with yellow and white horizontal stripes. She never returned.
Wooten told Evelyn’s family she had run away and later told investigators he last saw her get into a truck with a man named Frank Grimm, a person investigators could not identify. Evelyn left behind makeup, her purse, and $300 to $500 in cash, which her family says argues against a planned departure. Two days after Evelyn disappeared, Wooten murdered Debbie Taylor and her two young children; he confessed to that triple homicide and was sentenced to three life terms, but he denied involvement in Evelyn’s disappearance.
Evelyn’s case remains unsolved and her family continues to seek answers; anyone with information about her disappearance or the man named Frank Grimm is asked to come forward.
