Ronnie Tanner was 20 when he was shot and killed early on January 7, 1998, in Whitehall, Ohio. The shooting occurred at about 3:18 AM at an apartment at 222 Parklawn Boulevard, Apartment G. Tanner had been visiting a female friend when an unknown assailant confronted the two as they entered the apartment. A brief struggle followed after the attacker, described as an African-American male, brandished a firearm, and Tanner was shot. The suspect fled the scene.

Whitehall Police responded to an emergency call but investigators say no arrests have been made and the case remains unsolved. Authorities, including the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, have appealed for anyone who had contact with Tanner before his death or who knows anything about the circumstances to come forward.
