William Smith was 20 when he was shot dead in Springfield, Ohio, on June 26, 1994. Around 8:50 p.m., after leaving his girlfriend’s home on East Liberty Street, he was walking in front of 117 East Liberty when two unidentified men confronted him. One of the men produced a handgun and fired multiple shots. Smith was found on the sidewalk, taken to Mercy Medical Center, and pronounced dead there.
The two suspects fled in a gray Lincoln Continental with Ohio plates; that vehicle was later recovered by authorities. The shooting occurred in a relatively busy area, and there were reportedly many people present who might have seen something. The Springfield Police Department still lists the case as an open homicide and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
If anyone was in the area that night or remembers seeing a gray Lincoln Continental near East Liberty Street, please contact the Springfield Police Department with what you know.
